Garden Buildings and structures

Garden buildings have become very popular within the last 10 years. The majority of cabin suppliers will not modify or alter their cabins to suit your needs - one size fits all!

At Room-by-Room (UK) Ltd we offer our customers a  bespoke design and build service. If planning consent is required we can draw on over 30 years experience, working with local auorities all over the country, to negotiate a resolution. The building regulations states that a heated structure must have insulation in the floors, walls and ceiling and comply with the minimum heat loss requirements for the building reulations. Argon filled double glazed windows are a good start but the rest of the building envelope needs to comply as well!
 

External cladding such as the Western Red Cedar shown in this image above needs to be maintained and treated with a UV oil every 12 - 18 months to ensure the timber remains in good condition. If you do not want maintenance costs associated with timber cladding then there are other products that we can recommend. At the start of this year, 2021, the cost of purchasing milled planks of Western Red Cedar increased by more than double. 

Many of the cabins that we design sit within Permitted Development, but occassionally planning approval is necessary as is Building Control approval. We will advise you of relevant planning regulations and once instructed, act as your agent completing the necessary paperwork, producing the appropriate drawings and submitting the documents to the planning department and building control for  decision. We may need the assistance of other specialist consultants if depending on the type of soil, distance from certain trees or if the garden is witihin designated land such as Green Belt or within a concervation area. Some trees may have been determined by the council to be of significant interest and have a tree preservation order (TPO) attached to them. In these cases a root protection area (RPA) will be identified and therefore the proposed cabin or structure can not be positioned within this location and an alternative position must be selected.
